SciComm is short for Science Communication, a young field of science featuring the voices of many science advocates coming together to communicate their expertise in an engaging and easily understandable way to the general public. ~ Danni Washington

De’Marcus Robinson has a passion for communicating science to the public. This has led him to give talks at the Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium, Aquarium of the Pacific and many more! Additionally, he convenes experts and the public to participate on panel discussions geared towards initiating topics that have an effect on people, the community and environment.

De’Marcus is the founder of an organization called BehindTheSTEAHM with the purpose of dispelling misinformation and miscommunication in Science Technology Engineering Arts and Humanities (STEAHM). During COVID-19, De’Marcus developed and moderated, with his team, several webinars and panel discussion that engaged the public globally

Turning the Tide: Developing a Sustainable Future For Coastal Communities and Ecosystems in Florida

Florida’s coastal counties support a sustainable blue ocean economy for the state, but are heavily impacted by hurricanes and tropical storms, coastal erosion, habitat lost from coastal development, and harmful algal blooms that threatens the future resiliency of Florida’s coast. Dr. Robinson developed and moderated this panel to discuss solutions needed for the future

Explore your ocean panel was created by Dr. Robinson for UCLA’s Annual Explore your Universe event in 2022 and for the Inaugural LA Climate Week 2024. The purpose was to discuss current research and solutions to environmental issues along our California Coast and Beyond.

Seaspiracy

This panel discussed Seaspiracy and the miscommunication and misinformation involved in the movie. Additionally, we discussed possible solutions for commerce and fishery management.
